With the continuous development of the Internet of Things, wireless communication and remote control has become an indispensable part of human life, and the essence of wireless communication lies in the collection and transmission of information and information feedback. To realize the essence of these functions, cannot be separated from the relevant hardware and software control units to cooperate with each other, each unit is interdependent and indispensable to form a complete control system, this paper focuses on the industrial control of commonly used in the DTU, RTU, FTU, TTU four kinds of control and transmission units to be introduced.

DTU

Data Transfer Unit

DTU (Data Transfer unit) is a data transfer unit, which is a device used for remote data transmission, usually used to transfer data from remote devices to the central monitoring system.DTU generally includes data transmission and processing functions, and can be used to transmit data to the monitoring center or data center through various communication methods (such as GSM, GPRS, 3G, 4G, Ethernet, etc.). DTUs are widely used in IoT, remote monitoring, environmental monitoring, power systems and other fields.

RTU

Remote Terminal Unit

RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) is a remote terminal unit, a device used to collect and transmit data from remote devices to the central monitoring system, which can collect sensor data and execute control commands.RTUs play an important role in industrial automation and monitoring systems, and are used for real-time monitoring and controlling the status of remote devices. Compared with PLCs, RTUs are usually required to have excellent communication capabilities and larger storage capacity, are suitable for extremely harsh environments, and can provide more computational functions.RTUs are usually used to monitor and control remote equipment, such as pipelines, substations, and water treatment plants.

FTU

Feeder Terminal Unit

FTU (Feeder Terminal Unit) is a feeder terminal unit, which is a device mainly used to monitor and control the feeder of a power distribution system. FTUs are generally installed on the feeder of a power distribution system to collect data such as current, voltage, power, etc., and to monitor the status of the feeder. Generally, one FTU is required to be able to monitor at least one feeder switch. the FTU can also perform remote control operations, such as circuit breaker switching operations. Through FTUs, operators can monitor the feeder status in real time, detect faults in time and take appropriate measures to ensure the safe and stable operation of the distribution system.

TTU

Transformer Terminal Unit

TTU (Transformer Terminal Unit) is a transformer terminal unit, a kind of transformer parameter acquisition equipment.TTU is more common on transformers, it can monitor the current, voltage, temperature and other parameters of the transformer, as well as the operating status of the transformer, and transmit the data to the monitoring system in real time to improve the operating efficiency and protect the equipment.

The main difference between the four

Different data collection: DTU collects data from various devices on site, FTU collects grid fault information, TTU collects transformer temperature information, while RTU mainly collects the operation status and control information of devices on site.

Different transmission modes: DTU usually adopts wireless or wired mode to transmit data, FTU transmits through digital communication, TTU transmits data mainly by using special transmission line or wireless mode, and RTU adopts digital communication or wireless mode to realize data transmission.

DTU is the wireless data transmission module, RTU is the analog acquisition terminal module, is the analog variables after the acquisition, after the A/D into a digital format of the device, in the whole system the two parts are indispensable. The RTU collects signals and passes them to the DTU, which transmits the signals collected by the RTU to the control terminal through remote transmission, and the same wireless terminal can transmit the signals to the DTU through remote transmission, and the DTU then carries out control operations through the RTU.

In addition, FTU is used for monitoring and controlling the feeder of power distribution system, which contains the functions of DTU and RTU, and TTU is used for monitoring and controlling the transformer, which also contains the functions of DTU and RTU, and each kind of terminal unit has its own specific application fields and functions.
