What is a robot gripper

Jan 03, 2024 Leave a message

A gripper is a device that allows a robot to pick up, manipulate and hold objects. Grippers for collaborative robots allow manufacturers to automate basic stages of the production line, such as assembly, inspection, machine management, and pick and place.

Grippers in manufacturing are similar to a human hand because they are located at the end of the arm. This allows the user to have the strength of an arm and the dexterity of a hand. Collaborative robots can be used for heavy tasks, such as stacking boxes, as well as for delicate electronic work.

Collaborative robots can use many different types of grippers. These include human-like grippers, some of which even have five fingers. Other times, grippers may have only two or three fingers.

Grippers can also be shaped like claws or come with large suction cups and inflatable bags, each designed with a different process in mind.
